penelope alice dawson. pen, really. only my grandmother calls me penelope, and i was named for her.

DO YOU EVER LIE? ‘WHITE LIES’ OR SIGNIFICANT LIES?
i try not to. you see, lying does not really get you anywhere. everyone gets found out eventually. i say this from experience, but i can’t say i won’t ever do it again. that would be lying, too.

HOW DO YOU REACT TO CONFRONTATION?
head on. nothing is more tragic then allowing the perpetrator to see you weak. it’s not about getting back at them, or being violent. it’s about ‘taking no prisoners’. i will not back away from a confrontation, but i will not stoop to their level and make myself out to be the bad guy.

THAT IS AN INTERESTING QUOTE YOU HAVE UP THERE. ANY REASON FOR IT?
not especially. i do not listen to the band, but that quote really stuck out at me. i appreciate the forcefulness and the honesty behind it, and the integrity in each word. and who does not believe in being yourself?

WHAT IS THE FIRST IMPRESSION PEOPLE GET WHEN THEY MEET YOU?
forward and friendly, and not lacking in confidence. it is about finding that balance. why give everything away to someone who could use it against you? also, nobody likes a chatterbox. i have been told i am “bubbly” more than once. i hate awkward silences, so i am usually the first to speak.

DO YOU LIVE ALONE?
yes, in an apartment in los angeles. no boyfriend, husband, fiancé, or partner of any kind. just me.

WHO IS YOUR BEST FRIEND?
an amazing girl called chloe. she has been by my side through thick and thin, come hell or high-water, and she has never once judged me for my actions or my previous choice in boyfriends (which has only ever been two, but those did not end well). when my only two boyfriends cheated on me, she dealt with a crying pen. nothing would be the same without her.

IF THERE WAS ONE THING YOU COULD CHANGE ABOUT YOURSELF, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
i would love to have better choice in men. it seems i always head for those who love me less than i love them. all everything ends in is heartbreak, though i am convinced it is always one-sided. my over-confidence can occasionally be read as arrogance, and i put my hands up and say i never mean for it to be like that. so, that is something i would definitely love to change. perhaps i need to push my endurance, too.

DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE DONE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE EVER WANTED TO DO IN LIFE?
not quite.

DANCER, WRITER AND MODEL? HOW DID ALL THAT COME ABOUT?
i have been dancing since i was three. the writing came from various experiences in my life that i felt i could share with the world, and i wanted to test my talent with the paper and pen! modelling came as a result of the dancing; i have done a few dance magazine covers, as well as various others, but i rarely do it so much now.

ANY FAMILY NEARBY?
none. they all live in california, actually. unlike the typical person here, i am on great speaking terms with them and see them regularly, but right now los angeles is the place to be for my career. i’m holding a dance semester for young children which is taking up most of my time, though we chat through skype. i also have a sister who is eight years younger than me, and of course my grandmother.
