HISTORY:his parents were a happy couple just before tricks was born. newly weds and newly pregnant, it was their dream to start a loving family at this time in their lives. still, they were not expecting to get pregnant at such an early stage in their marriage. nonetheless, david and gionna took the unplanned pregnancy in stride and took all the necessary precautions. buying a new home that was relatively child proof, they moved in immediately after the sale was finalized and barely in time. two weeks after the move, santiago tristan quinn was born. the first and only child to mr. and mrs. quinn. it was an exciting time for the young parents, who began to the motions of informing friends and family. quite honestly, they were the perfect couple. everything about them were right. they had been together since they were in high school, going to prom together and holding each other’s hands as they graduated. they went to the same university and followed each other everywhere. wherever one went, the other was not too far behind. sure, the couple had their doubts and their break ups, but they were mostly the most perfect of examples for the young couple.
his first few months of life were easy. sure, his parents may have had a hell of a time adjusting and his mother was not happy about having to stay home with him all the time, but she soon got used to the routine and began to enjoy the time she was given with her son. while his mother cared for him, his father went back to being the c.e.o. of some big company and earning more than enough income for their family.
the first few years of his life were smooth sailing. he was unaware of the drama going on in his parents lives, but he was well aware of the yelling matches that would occur at least once or twice a week. he wasn’t aware of his father’s domestic abuse on his mother, but he was aware of the bruises that appeared across her face every few days or the fingers marks across her wrist. he was a child and he was naive. he had no idea that his father was beating his mother and, quite honestly, he wished he still did not know this information. he wish his father had kept that with him until his grave. he wishes that secret had died with him, instead of embedded in his mind and carried on for the rest of eternity.
when he finally started up school, he was very carefree and fun loving. his preschool time was the most amazing thing. to this day, he can still remember those few months with the utmost clarity. still, his school years were no always so lovely. being only four years old when he entered preschool, the time flew by. he remembers making and losing friends, creating enemies and discovering at an early age what a bully was. still, those were the best days. the days when everything was okay.
just before he turned five years old, he started kindergarten. the atmosphere was much different, that he remembers, but everything between then and his mother’s death is just a small blip in his memory. half way through his year, he had come home to find a scene no child should have to witness. today, he realizes that the scene he had witnessed was meant for his father, but it had not gone as planned. young santiago had come home one day after school, to find his own mother, face down in a puddle of her own blood on the kitchen floor. he’s never been the same since.
